BANGKOK, THAILAND โ€” The Thai Cannabis Federation has formally opposed the governmentโ€™s plan to reclassify cannabis as a narcotic, urging the swift passage of a law that ensures its availability for medical use. The federation, representing various cannabis-related businesses and organizations, submitted a letter to the Narcotics Control Board through the Food and Drug Administration, emphasizing that cannabis has proven medical benefits and should remain accessible as an alternative treatment option.

The federation cited six medical studies supporting cannabisโ€™s therapeutic value, stressing the need for clear and specific legislation. They also suggested that, until such laws are passed, the Ministry of Public Health should implement interim measures allowing doctors to prescribe cannabis-based herbal remedies to patients who prefer not to use conventional drugs.

This move comes as part of a broader debate over cannabis regulation in Thailand, where advocates are pushing for policies that support both medical use and economic development. The federation also called for the government to encourage educational institutions, businesses, and communities to collaborate on developing cannabis-related products and services, which could contribute to the national economy.
