CHON BURI, THAILAND – A man under the influence of marijuana caused a bizarre scene last night when he crashed his car into a power pole and chose to cuddle his pets while smiling at the police. The incident occurred around 10:46 PM in Soi Wat Boon Sumpan 9, Nong Prue Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District.

Police from the Nong Prue Police Station and rescue volunteers from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya arrived at the scene to find a Suzuki Ciaz that had veered off the road and collided with a high-voltage power pole. The car suffered significant damage, but the driver, a 27-year-old Hong Kong national, appeared unphased and was found inside hugging his dog and cat, seemingly oblivious to the accident.

Efforts by officers and residents to wake the driver were initially unsuccessful. After about 20 minutes, they managed to drag him out of the vehicle. Throughout the ordeal, the man continued to smile serenely, as if unaware of the gravity of the situation.

A friend of the driver, 23-year-old PATIPAN, explained that the Hong Kong man had been smoking marijuana with friends before attempting to drive back to his accommodation. Due to his intoxicated state, he parked the car haphazardly, blocking local residences. Concerned for his friend’s safety, Patipan followed him and tried to persuade him to move the vehicle, but the driver refused assistance and resumed driving, leading to the crash.

Police have taken the Hong Kong man into custody for a breathalyzer test to determine his blood alcohol content. They are also working to clear the wrecked vehicle from the scene to restore normal traffic flow and ensure that residents can use the road without further hindrance.

The incident highlights the dangers of driving under the influence of substances and the unpredictable behaviors that can result from such actions. Authorities continue to stress the importance of sobriety behind the wheel to prevent accidents and ensure public safety.
