CHIANG MAI, THAILAND — Chiang Mai University is making significant strides in the field of medical cannabis with the launch of a cutting-edge research laboratory. The new facility, officially handed over on August 19, is equipped with advanced extraction technology that meets the stringent standards of Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The lab is a result of a collaboration between Chiang Mai University and Atlanta Meddicaire Co., Ltd., a partnership established in 2019 to drive the research and development of medical-grade cannabis extracts. The facility, valued at approximately 1.65 million baht, is designed to support the entire value chain of medical cannabis production, from cultivation to clinical testing.
DR. SUPHAT JIRANUSORNKUL, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, highlighted the importance of this new lab in ensuring the quality and safety of cannabis products intended for medical use. “With this facility, we can guarantee the quality of the cannabis extracts used in our research, which will ultimately benefit the advancement of medical studies on a global scale,” he said.
The opening ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including PROFESSOR DR. PONGSAK SRIBANDITMONGKOL, President of Chiang Mai University, and SUPADECH AMNUAYSUKUL, Chairman of Atlanta Meddicaire. Both leaders emphasized the potential of this collaboration to position Thailand as a leader in the burgeoning field of medical cannabis research.
As Thailand continues to expand its medical cannabis industry, facilities like this one at Chiang Mai University will play a crucial role in developing high-quality, effective treatments. This move not only strengthens Thailand’s position in the global cannabis market but also showcases the country’s commitment to harnessing the potential of cannabis for medical purposes.
