Hong Kong, September 10 – Customs officials at Hong Kong International Airport made a significant drug bust on September 9th and 10th. Two passengers were found to be suspiciously smuggling illegal substances into the country. Officials confiscated approximately 1.5 kilograms of suspected cocaine and 5.3 kilograms of cannabis buds, with an estimated value of around 2.5 million US dollars or approximately 88,671,250 Thai Baht.
Among the detainees, a 23-year-old male, who traveled from Chiang Mai Airport in Thailand, was found to have 22 packages of cannabis concealed within 18 food containers in his luggage. He was apprehended immediately.
Hong Kong law classifies cannabis, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), and cannabidiol (CBD) as dangerous drugs. Importing products, including food and beverages containing cannabis, THC, or CBD, is considered prohibited unless permitted by law. Trafficking controlled substances can lead to severe penalties, with the maximum punishment being a fine of 5 million Hong Kong dollars (approximately 22.6 million Thai Baht) and life imprisonment.
